History

History of Quality

The Wittelsbach hotel shows proudly its history without beeing old fashioned. Back into the 19th century we learn about tradition and dedication to qualitiy hosting. Since 5 generations we live and strive for guests satisfaction.

1889 hotel was beeing built

Italians come into the valley of Ruhpolding to build houses. One is The Wittelsbach Hotel, former Gasthof Sexauer.

Anton Gillitzer buys the hotel in 1906

Anton Gillitzer, Marcus's great grand father, a professional hotelier from Munich, who had worked in London, Paris, overseas already at this time, came to Ruhpolding to buy this special hotel. Coming from Munich and knowing the Royal Family in these days he asked Prince Luitpold to use the Royal name for the hotel name: Wittelsbach.

Anton meets Margarethe

Anton falls in love with Margarethe, who seems to be quite a tough Bavarian Lady out from a large family of innkeepers and butchers. She turns out to be a very good land lady at The Wittelsbach, a popular women at her time in Ruhpolding. They have 4 daughters, of whom Elisabeth, the second eldest takes over the business in 1936, 3 years before the war starts.

Elisabeth & Eduard in Wartimes

During the war Elisabeth and Eduard Conrad run the hotel quite successfully in the beginning. But the Government need more homes for mothers and children and later they need more hospitals. So The Wittelsbach was taken over by the authorities for those purposes until 1948 when at last the American soldiers were accomodated there.

The Fifties

After the war the hotel needs to be refurbished completely. Rather quickly the hotel turns out to be a fashonable place again and Ruhpolding gets very busy with guests from all over the world. They have three girls of whom Rosemarie will take over the hotel together with her husband Wolfgang in 1973.

The Eismann-Story starts

Rosemarie merries Wolfgang Eismann from Königswinter (near Bonn by the Rhine river) in 1964. They have three boys and take the business over in 1973. In 1986 they refurbish all guest rooms and equip them with the stylish Italian furniture. All three of the boys today work in the Hotel/Restaurant business. Marcus, the youngest went out for his training to the famous Black Forest Hotel Traube-Tonbach to work with Willi Finkbeiner and Harald Wohlfahrt.

Marcus and Anja

In 1992 Marcus came home after spending two years in England. He brings Anja with him, who he first met in the Black Forest in the same hotel. Anja was originally from Essen, out from a gardener's family, but she always wished to work and live in the Bavarian Alps in a hotel. They merried in 1993 and today they have three children. They took over the hotel in the new millennium and their eldest daughter already attends the hotel college. Will she take over one day? The story will go on, however.

In 2010 & 2011 the hotel is beeing renovated from the cellar to the roof. In May 2011 the newly decorated outside is finished
Anja & Marcus are very grateful that they could get done so many projects within one year.
